As i walked along the sandy costal line, bits of torn clothes and saris penetrated deep amidst the rocks came into my view.
That picture replayed in my head over and over again for i wondered if those were the clothes of the hundreds who had perished in the terrible 2004 tsunami disaster.
We walked furthur down the breakwaters. A long stretch of rocks. I wanted to go all the way to the end and gaze towards the horizon. And i had a chance to do it with the rest of them.
The breeze, the view.. it was amazing.
We had arrived in India with much excitement. When we reached the place we were going to call home for the next 2 weeks, we were a bit shocked. The house didnt look like the one the teacher had showed us, but it was alright. At LEAST it had proper bathrooms and a bed to sleep on.
However our happiness only lasted a while because we were asked to vacate the house by night due to our smoking and drinking habits, which didnt coincide with the indian culture. Obviously we didnt have anywhere else to go so we apologised to the house owner and told him we would keep our habits under low key.
The second day wasnt good either. 2 girls claimed they had seen shadows and were so affected by it they started crying. We were so scared and so slept together in the living room that night. Speculations of whether it were signs of us having to vacate the house arised.
2 girls were ill and went back to singapore in the second week. All of us fell sick probably due to the water and the very hot weather.
Other than that the times we spent together at night talking and bonding and the times we taught the kids at the orphanage were worth it. I miss all of them terribly. Sometimes i wish i could be with them for a longer period.
Will post pics and talk about that another time.
Until then..
=)
love all!
